Petition the President

With four more American soldiers dead today because of a suicide bomber, the death toll in Iraq just continues to grow. The president repeatedly says that he will "stay the course" and refuses to set a date for the end of this debacle. This sort of attitude, could drag this war on indefinitely.

Senator John Kerry is attempting to collect 400,000 names on a petition he wants to send to the President, demanding that he bring 20,000 troops home by Christmas. In the first 24 hours of this petition, more than 80,000 people have already signed their names. At this rate, the number of people signing could reach 1.5 million people or more!

The text in the petition begins, "America can no longer tolerate the Bush administration's failed "stay as long as it takes" approach to the war in Iraq. It is time for Congress to demand and for George W. Bush to deliver a clear, concrete plan". And I feel it is time for each and every American to demand the same.

We need very badly for the President to listen to the American people, instead of the Man upstairs. I, for one, am pessimistic enough to believe that the President will ignore this petition as he seems to ignore all other advice, but for the sake of our troops, I hope this gets his attention.
